Multicultural Youth in Creative Advertising & Design

MYCAD – Multicultural Youth in Creative Advertising and Design – is Ayzenberg’s program developed with the goal of introducing design and advertising to high-school-aged multicultural youth groups.

Ayzenberg, an advertising agency, teamed up with our Chief Creative Officer, Rudy Manning to develop the MYCAD program. Pastilla then set out to build a strategic brand identity system that would capture their target demographic and encourage them to explore opportunities in design and advertising.

Our work on developing MYCAD’s branding system earned Pastilla a spot among the shortlisted entries in the Brand/Communication Design category for this year’s ADC Annual Awards.

Pastilla was challenged with developing and executing the logo mark and brand identity that could reflect what the program was about and the youth participating. The design concept is heavily centered around the “My” of MYCAD (Multicultural Youth in Creative Advertising & Design). It highlights the multicultural youth as a whole while representing the individual. The “My” acts as a support system in layouts and grids. At the same time, the graphics & patterns are used to reflect the diversity & creativity that the program offers.

About MYCAD

There is a crisis in design and advertising. While 40% of Americans identify as other than white, less than 25% of advertising professionals do. Real opportunities exist for BIPOC, AAPI, and other underrepresented people in design and advertising. But often, youth from these backgrounds are not aware of these opportunities because of systemic racism.

MYCAD is a program to introduce design and advertising to multicultural youth in high school.

Thinking globally about the opportunity to improve outcomes for the industry and the world, MYCAD is Ayzenberg’s & Pastilla’s response to act locally to connect multicultural youth with opportunities in design and advertising. MYCAD is a program to introduce design and advertising to multicultural youth in high school. It was developed in partnership with a fellow agency, Ayzenberg, to support youth in developing tools for success in college or trade school, and help build a career after college.

The project’s goals are: to introduce design and advertising to multicultural youth in HS (awareness); support multicultural youth in developing tools for success in college or trade school (portfolio); and help multicultural youth build a career after college (network).

Once again, our team is honored to officially be in the running for the 101st ADC Annual Awards. Winners are to be announced on May 18, 2022.
